Yep. The design went to Enfield because the president of the American company (I forget which one) suffered a heart attack in his office while Lee was sitting in his waiting room.

James Paris Lee was born in Scotland and emigrated to America, where he invented the rifle, so we have to share. Remington made Lee rifles, including 45-70 models with detatchable magazines tested by the U.S. Army and rejected (IIRC) on budgetary reasons. The U.S. Navy adopted a Lee rifle in 6mm, but it was not a good cartridge.

We copied the Mauser for the M1903 because Remington was jelously protecting Lee's patent and we thought we could get under Mauser's radar.

I read somewhere that one of the Mauser brothers worked for Lee in the 1870s before going home to Germany. I can't find my reference on that, but it makes a great story.

The "CEO died with the inventor in the waiting room" actually happened to John Moses Browning at Winchester. That is why the inventor of the Winchester M1886, M1887, M1892, M1894, M1894, M1895 and M1897 sold the Auto-5 to FN and Remington.

The Dragunov is not comparable with the Lee or Mauser, but the Moisin-Nagant is. And just as good. The caliber of both is 7.62x54R.

Swiss Mauser? Are you sure you don't mean Swedish? A friend of mine had a Swiss Schmidt-Reubin, and while it was slicker than snot on a windowpane, it wasn't a Mauser. The Swedish 6.5x55 Mauser is a terific deer rifle.

Japanese swords. Not all Japanese swords were 1000-fold Masamune's. Many were crap, but few of the crap were preserved which gives us a distorted view. Kind of like assuming the level of decoration and finish of swords in the Wallace is typical of European swords.

Luke 22:36 He said to them, “But now let the one who has a moneybag take it, and likewise a knapsack. And let the one who has no sword sell his cloak and buy one.

Welshy love to taunt me Its ok, I usually don't give him the satisfaction of a response

Let me see

A LEE ENFIELD

Barrel length: 25.2 in 640 mm
Ammunition: 0.303 in (7.7 mm) SSA Ball Mk VI, Mk VII
Magazine: 10 round magazine
Rate of fire: 15 to 30 round/min
Muzzle velocity: 774 m/s
Weight: 4.17 kg

A MAUSER 98K

Barrel length: 600 mm
Ammunition: 7.92 x 57 mm Mauser
Magazine: 5 rounds internal box
Rate of fire: 15 rpm
Muzzle velocity: 745 m/s
Weight: 3.7 - 4.1 kg

BUT, here is the kicker

ENCHANTMENTS:

Bless of National Socialism: +150% damage against communist targets

Resistance against French Resistance: Double Negative Factor, cause French targets to flee in fear screaming "We fart in your general direction!"

Pax Italia: Easily pacifies and sometimes mind-controls a single Italian target, complete with "MAMA-MIA!" soundbyte

London Blitz: Cause English soldiers to panic, Scottish targets to blow pipes and Irish targets to tap-dance in joy by spreading false rumors of an imminent American invasion of Great Britain, effective until early 1942 (Patton OWNS J00!).

Dutch Camouflage: Great for narrow escapes. The Dutch Camouflage immediately disguises the user into a Dutch citizen, complete with a pair of wooden shoes and a bike! (and booklet containing a list of bad things to say about the current Hollish prime minister)

Code of the Bushido: Borrowed from the Japanese, this enchantment renders the user invincible (or so he thinks) for a short period of time, at least until lead outweighs the flesh. Effectiveness increases while drunk.

Touched by Swiss: Tainted by the World Bank, this rifle is now a highly prized possession. Should the financial situation of the user becomes desperate, this rifle could be sold at +1000% of the original price to Jews.

With these enhancements, how could you not believe the Mauser to be a superior rifle?
